AUCKLAND BUS FARES
17 p.c. Rise (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 19. Fares on Auckland Regional Authority buses are to be increased by an average of 17 per cent from next Monday. Concession tickets will be reduced from 12 rides to 10 and university and business college students will no longer be able to obtain children’s concession rates. The authority is also reducing its Sunday services. Mr J. Allsop-Smith, chairman of the authority passenger transport division, told the authority tonight that the new fares would recover about half of this year’s estimated deficit of £331,000. The balance remained a levy on ratepayers.
