Discussion On Boundaries

“Without any preconceived ideas,” the city development committee reported to the City Council last evening that discussions should be held with representatives of adjoining local bodies on the possibility of adjustment to boundaries. The council authorised the committee to arrange a meeting. “The central Government is gradually whittling away local body responsibilities,” Cr. A. R. Guthrey said. “We need more power, more responsibility and an improvement in our public image. “Local body government is the very core of democracy, and anything we can do in a spirit of friendliness to give it greater importance will be in the public interest.”
