Political Analogy

Sir, —“A. B. Cedarian” is astray as the farmers do not nourish our economy when they oppose the development of secondary industries such as the iron and steel works and the cotton mill. The Federated Farmers even supported the export of dividends to overseas shareholders by approving the take-over of the New Zealand Loan Company, the glassworks, and the National Bank of New Zealand. The Federation of Labour opposes such take-overs because we badly need capital here for investment and also because it does not want our economy to become subject to the whims of overseas speculators. The first Labour Government owed much to the trade unions which supported its guaranteed price and bulk purchase scheme for farmers. —Yours, etc., DISILLUSIONED NATIONALIST. September 19, 1966.
