Tunnel Tolls

Sir, —While for political reasons Mr de Latour must follow the National Party’s line and oppose the Labour policy of doing away with toll charges on the tunnel road.

one would have thought that, as a farmer, he would have been more cautious. After all, why should not the National Roads Board finance the whole of the new route to Lyttelton? It used to make funds available to keep the old route over Evans Pass open. If it was fair and proper to use National Roads Board money to pay for access to Lyttelton in those days it is still proper. —Yours, etc., LA DETOUR. September 18, 1966.
