Prime Ministers’ Conference

Sir, —Harold Wilson, as head of the British Government, set out to attempt to tie down the Rhodesian Government to that spurious democratic method of one-man-one-vote as the means of government. In the negotiations before the U.D.I. Mr Wilson was adamant that the Smith Government should be able to prove to the satisfaction of the British Government that the constitution acceptable to the Smith regime was acceptable to the whole of the people of Rhodesia. Now he seems to have the backing of the Commonwealth Conference that Rhodesia’s Constitution should have the backing of not only the people of Rhodesia but also of the Commonwealth Conference and of the Governments of the United Nations. How fatuous can he become? He is making Britain a stooge for nations inside and outside the Commonwealth which could take a lesson from Rhodesia on how to live in peace and amity.— Yours, etc., W. B. BRAY. Leeston, September 17, 1966.
