Diagnosis Of Cancer
Sir, —In view of what Dr. Emerson Day said—“ One of every four New Zealanders will develop cancer during a lifetime”—Mr J. D. O’Regan could be rendering a service to his contemporaries if they would listen and learn from him. At the moment, only one out of three people is cured of cancer. Two out of three could be cured with present methods of treatment if they could overcome their fear and seek advice from their family physician earlier. For those for whom a cure is not possible, life can be prolonged for many, and great effort made to keep them comfortable and active. As a field officer for the Cancer Society, I find that those attending our programmes are eager to learn about the disease. They see me as a good advertisement for a cancer cure. I want to see their chances of becoming one increased.—Yours, etc., TERRY WOOLMOREGOODWIN. September 19, 1966.
