Kaitawa Fund Defrauded (JV.Z. Press Arjoc-iatton) AUCKLAND, Sept. 13. Ernest Land, aged 45, a cook, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment on a charge of obtaining £l5 from the British Sailors' Society Kaitawa benefit fund by false pretences. Land earlier pleaded guilty. He told society officials he was the brother of one of the Kaitawa's crew. He said he was supporting this women ;nd her children and that he was “running a bit short” on money. The society gave him £l5. It was later discovered Land was not the brother-in-law of the . woman, but a cousin by marriage. The £l5 was not used to support her. Mr F. McCarthy, S.M., said it was a “cheap, nasty false pretence.”
