Reports Of Jewel Ring Discounted

(New Zealand Press Association! WELLINGTON, September 12. Recent reports of a highly-organised international jewel-ring operating between New Zealand and Australia have been discounted by the head of the C. 1.8., Detective Superintendent R. J. Walton.

It seemed more likely there were a few individuals acting on their own initiative, he said today. Mr Walton had just return ed from Australia where he attended a conference of

C. 1.8. heads in Adelaide. He also took part in investigations in Sydney into traffic in stolen jewels between Australia and New Zealand. The arrest of a man and the recovery of stolen New Zealand jewels in Sydney 12 days ago had confirmed that goods stolen here were being disposed of in Australia. This had been suspected by New Zealand police for some time, said Mr Walton, but it did not follow that a large international jewel ring was operating here.
