Minister ‘Trying To Undermine P.S.A.’

(New Zealand Press Association!

WELLINGTON, September 12. The Public Service Association believes the Minister of Labour (Mr Shand) is trying to undermine its organisation.

The Government Printer (Mr R. E. Owen) has distributed to the 300 Government printers copies of Mr Shand’s letter outlining the Government’s offer to settle the present printers’ dispute.

The letter was received by the P.S.A. secretary, Mr D. P. Long, on Friday. Mr Long said tonight that he saw Mr Shand's action as an effort to cut off the 300 printers from the P.S.A.

He said the letter merely repeated the Government’s previous offer on August 30. He said his organisation had taken no further action on the Government’s offer. A P.S.A. delegation will meet the Deputy Prime Minister (Mr Marshall) on Wednesday in an effort to settle the dispute. The overtime ban introduced 15 days ago was continuing, Mr Owen said.
