New Water Authority
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 11. A bill was introduced in Parliament on Friday making important changes in provisions for controlling the use of all lakes and rivers in New Zealand. The bill set up an authority to develop a national water policy; to conserve and allocate water resources, control flooding, erosion and drainage; and to make provision for fishery and wildlife needs, and for all recreational uses of water. A new National Water and Soil Conservation Authority is given over-all responsibility. Also, a new Water Allocation Council and the existing Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Council and the Pollution Advisory Council will be responsible to the national authority.
