“Reason Defied"

NEW PLYMOUTH. Sept 7
Large-scale increases in fees for doctors “defied reason." the president of the Taranaki branch of the New Zealand division of the British Medical Association. Dr. C. M. Greig, of Inglewood, said today.
Dr. Greig was commenting on the report prepared by the Auckland branch of the B.M.A. which recommended the introduction of higher fees based on an hourly gross charge of £6.
“My initial reaction to the report’s publication
was one of disgust.” said Dr. Greig. "There is no question of these fees being charged. “The report was prepared by a small group of six doctors and was regarded as confidential to members of the B.M.A. "The report has not even been presented to the B.M.A.’s council and many doctors will be astonished at its publication.” There were many points in the report that were only too true. Dr. Greig said, but most doctors felt the recommendations for fees would be too extreme.
