Super Sal In Fast Awapuni Trial

“The Press” Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH.

Super Sal was the most impressive trialist in a quiet morning at Awapuni yesterday. The improving Beau Diable filly ran so well in her half-mile trial on the plough that she looks certain to race prominently in the Trial Plate at Wanganui on Saturday.

Silver Sabre ran a useful trial for the Wanganui Guineas and Laramie and Both Ways excel*

On the plough Super Sal infused plenty of dash into her work with a fine half-mile in 51 2-ssec, the last three furlongs in 37 2-ssec. This was an excellent effort. Super Sal has done well since her fast-finishing third at Foxton.

Gold Mint, whose Wanganui Guineas chance cannot be overlooked, covered five furlongs in Imin 6sec, the last three easily in 40 2-ssec. He could have done better. Gold Mint won well on the first day and a mile should suit him.

Laramie, whose next race will be either at Otaki or Hastings, covered seven furlongs in his usual free style in Imin 32sec, the last three in 39sec. He has not looked back since winning at Foxton.

Laramie’s stablemate, Roman Consul, was given a light task. He came through his Wanganui race well and his prospects of winning this week look particularly bright.

On the course proper Both Ways did good work with Dervish over five furlongs in Imin 5 2-ssec, the last three in 38scc. Both Ways may race at Otaki. He looks very promising.

Jaheen and Ichtar shaded Sir Loin at the finish of half a mile in 51sec, the last three furlongs in 37 3-ssec. Janeen, a last start winner at Foxton, will race at Marton.

On the inside trial Sliver Sabre did good work alongside Silver Pennant at the end of half a mile in 50sec, the last three furlongs in 38sec. Silver Sabre may find it hard to cope with Raidan and Game in the Wanganui Guineas, but he looks much improved after his race at Foxton. There should be good opportunities for him later.
