AUCKLAND, Aug. 29.
Mr W. C. Motion, sportsman and former local body administrator, has died at his home at Otaua, near Waiuku. He was 92.
Mr Motion was a president and for 13 years a vicepresident of the Racing Conference. He bought his first racehorse at the age of 16 and bred and raced horses for about 40 years.
For 32 years, he was a committee member of the Auckland Racing Club until he retired in 1960. He was also a life member of the club, and a member of the Franklin Racing Club and the Avondale Jockey Club. Mr Motion was president of the Franklin club in 1919. He was the first chairman of the Franklin County Council in 1912.
In the 1920’s he was chairman of the Dairy Association which later became the New Zealand cooperative Dairy Company, Ltd., after the amalgamation of dairy interests in Waikato. He also represented the Dairy Control Board in London for three years. Mr Motion is survived by his son and two daughters.
