USE THIS SEASON?
AH-Weather Track
It was hoped that the allweather track at Queen Elizabeth II Park would be in use during the coming sea son, the retiring president of the Canterbury Athletic Centre (Mr W. A. Kennedy) says in his report to be presented to the annual meeting on September 15. “Tenders have been received by the Christchurch City Council for the laying of the all-weather track at Queen Elizabeth II Park, but as yet it is not possible to give a date when the track will be completed,” Mr Kennedy says.
“The centre executive has examined the plans and specifications of the track and amenities and the council engineers and staff are to be congratulated on the care and thought that has gone into the plans.” Mr Kennedy says he believes it will be one of the finest athletic arenas in New Zealand. The fund stands at £2988.
Fifty-three records were broken last season, according to the report. These were made up of 11 in senior events, two in women’s events, four in junior events and 36 in under age events.
