TOURISTS’ TRANSPORT

M.P. Predicts Boom (From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, Aug. 22. Those running road services associated with the tourist industry enjoyed a great potential, Sir Basil Arthur, member of Parliament ifor Timaru, told the Road Passenger Services Association at Timaru today. “We are on the fringe of a boom, the extent of which in this industry cannot be anticipated, and although people will come to New Zealand by air to see the country, they will have to travel by road, and, to a large extent, on passenger buses,” Sir Basil Arthur said. He referred to the annual report of the association, which mentioned increasing inroads into the trade by private motorists. Sir Basil Arthur said the drift was back towards public transport. There were “terrible problems” with parking in rapidly growing centres, and already many people were beginning to leave their cars at home and use bus services.
