QUOTATIONS FROM LIN

Peking Radio Broadcasts (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter — Copyright > TOKYO, Aug. 21. Peking Radio last Friday dropped its usual daily quotations from Mao Tse-tung for domestic listeners and substituted an extract from the speech that the Defence Minister, Marshal Lin Piao, had made at a public rally in Peking. Peking Radio, monitored in Tokyo, quoted Marshal Lin as saying that Mr Mao was the best leader and greatest genius in the world. Observers in Tokyo saw the substitution of Marshal Lin for Mr Mao as strengthening the speculation that the Defence Minister may have gained equality with Mr Mao in the Chinese hierarchy or had at least been marked out as his successor.
