SUPREME COURT

“Fortunate Delay” The many years delay in putting up a new Supreme Court building was almost fortunate, said Mr A. C. Brassingt'on at a meeting of the Civic Trust last evening. “If the building had been put up as planned many years ago we would have had a building that was out of keeping with modern ideas, and the town hall and civic centre,” said Mr Brassington. “The building can now be designed by the Government architects to form part of a very pleasing area. “Mr J. A. Hendry’s architectural report on the old Supreme Court buildings means that those responsible for the design of the new building will bear in mind that some parts of the old building should be retained. “His report has been one of those catalytic agents and has crystalised public opinion at the right time. ‘The whole thing is uow moving along in balance and on a broad front” Mr J. Oakley, the trust board chairman, said he hoped the new Supreme Court building would harmonise with the rest of the area.
