STYLES IN PEKING
Teen-agers' Demands (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright > PEKING, August 22. China’s “great cultural revolution” is marching into the streets and shops of Peking, with a purge of hairstyles, Western clothes, cosmetics, luxury food, and anything bourgeois. Crowds of teen-agers, acting as “red guards” of the cultural revolution, spent the week-end painting up new street names in the capital. They ordered traders to stop selling goods like cosmetics and curios and to remove foreign names from a whole range of goods including cocoa and cameras. Hairdressers were told to cease giving “Hong Kong trims.” Restaurants were ordered to cook cheaper, simpler food fit for workers and peasants.
