CAMPS FOR HANDICAPPED

Governor’s Bay Site Chosen Adventure camps, which would help handicapped people to organise and care for themselves, would be organised at Governor’s Bay by the Christchurch Special Class After-Care Society, said the president (Mr D. F. Stewart) yesterday. The camps would be held at the old Governor's Bay school site, which had been left in the care t of the society, he said. The school would be used as a recreational hall, and the school house as an overnight hostel. The camps would be held mainly at week-ends, and would provide accommodation for about 12 people aged between 15 and 25. “This centre will be for small groups of handicapped people for whom the society will provide a variety of activities,” said Mr Stewart. The centre would be gradually developed as the society saw fit, but the aim would always be to help develop independence of the handicapped.
