MOD. SHIRTS FOR MEN
Today the mod. look for men, which began in the boutiques of London’s Carnaby street, is sweeping into America and Australia. Now a Christchurch firm has included a range of mod. shirts in its collection.
The new style has gained international stature and fashion respectability. It has many interpretations but Lichfield Ltd. favours floral prints, bold paisleys, contrasting coli lars, fancy cuffs, shoulder epaulettes and corduroy. The surest sign of the new look in young fashion is the I return of prints to favour. I Most “way-out” is the grannie I print unmistakably floral, yet strong enough in colour and styling detail to be distinctly masculine. The print looks most striking with contrasting collars; and cuffs and always with; polo-pointed button-down collars. Equally effective and some-: times considered more wearable, are the bold new paisleys. particularly the crisp, printed Oxford fabrics. These are sure to be a big, new influence on the sportswear scene. The American trend i has again been followed, with ’
> longer-pointed collar styling, two-button cuffs. | The op art influence shows in an eye-catching black-and- . white geometric pattern, the 'material in a most unusual ■ double-cloth construction. Corduroy is a key fabric on the mod scene—equally popular for slacks, jackets and shirts. The range has a fine pinwale cord for shirts in four traditional colours and five fashionable shades including burgundy, royal and black. The tobacco shades are being , promoted overseas for winiter leisure wear. The regular and “short” i buttoned-down collars are still evident, but the long polopointed button-down style is particularly favoured with twin button-down pockets as an additional feature. White-line stitching on collar, pockets, and epaulettes contrasting with bright, bold colours such as berry-red. orange, citrus, and “wild” blue, also gives a mod. air.
