SPINNING PARTY
More Than 100 Expected Spinning enthusiasts will have the opportunity to discuss their hobby on August 31 while watching others at the wheel at a spinning party at Rakaia Community Hall. About 100 spinners have accepted invitations, and many more are expected. It is hoped any spinner who wishes to learn more about spinning, the effects obtained with different wools, making up garments, and dying wool will attend. This is a hobby which is not restricted to women. At least 10 men who are keen spinners will be at the party which will begin at 10 a.m., and will finish at 4 p.m. A Darfield resident—whose favourite hobby is, of course, spinning—is sponsoring the party. She hopes those attending will bring their spinning wheels, knitting or sewing and spend the day with others equally interested in an ageold craft. Lessons in spinning will be given; children are invited to bring their hand spindles. In the afternoon Mrs Harold Thorne, of Hororata, will speak on home-dyeing and there will be a short programme of entertainment.
