CHEMICAL TOILETS
Factory Use Approved
The use of chemical lavatories as a temporary measure was agreed to by the Waimairi County Council which, at its monthly meeting last night, approved for advertising as a conditional use a plan by Manchester Holdings, Ltd, to build a clothing factory at 551 Harewood road. Earlier, on plans by the company to erect a 100 ft x 30ft building, the council approved the scheme for advertising for objections provided the building was not used until an operative sewer was available. The County Engineer (Mr I. Calvert) said that it would be about two years before the sewer could be connected. The senior health inspector (Mr R. H. Gee) said there appeared to be no objection from a health point of view, involving the disposal of water from one sink. The chemical toilets would be maintained by a sanitation service. In giving its approval subject to objections, the council required satisfactop’ building plans, the provision of enough chemical toilets to comply with the Health Act, their removal when the sewer is laid, and approved landscaping of the site.
