Two Streets

Sir, —Two streets in a very bad condition are Waller terrace and Stewart street: broken footpaths, also channels and roadway adjacent to channels. I have lived here for 30 years and nothing has been done to either of them in the way of repairs during that period. There are 45 properties in the area and at a very low estimate £3BOO has been collected in rates. 1 wish to ask the City Council what has been done with the money?—Yours, etc., RESIDENT. August 10, 1966. [Mr P. G. Scoular, the City Engineer for the Christchurch City Council, replies: “These two streets have had similar treatment to other streets over recent years. Waller terrace was bitumen-scaled in

October, 1958, and is still In good condition and the footpaths were resealed in October, 1963. Stewart street was bitumen-sealed in October, 1958, and is scheduled for resealing this year: footpaths were resealed last year. Side channels are not in good condition but are in no more need of attention than those of many other streets in the city. Lengths of kerbing and channelling have been repaired in recent years in both streets after major damage by building contractors.”]
