Widespread Thefts And Burglaries
Twenty-seven thefts and burglaries were reported to police from Saturday morning to yesterday afternoon, the biggest number of week-end offences reported for several weeks.
Cameras, electric blankets and cosmetics were included m £166 16s 6d worth of goods stolen when a chemist’s shop at 282 Main N rth road, was broken into. A house on the Main South road. Sockbum, was also broken into and £l7 stolen. The sum of £29 was stolen from a Hornby shop that was burgled. Groceries worth £4l 17s were stolen from a shop in St. Asaph street. Money and property worth £23 13s were stolen from a restaurant at 329 Main North road, and a radio worth £2l was taken from a house in Caledonian road.
A radio and liquor, worth £24, were stolen from an unlocked garage in Poulton avenue, and a radio worth £35 from a house in Springfield road. Liquor and money, of a total value of £7 10s were stolen from a house in Thorrington road, and cigarettes and chocolates, worth £2O, were stolen from the Christchurch Fruit Supply, Ferry road. The premises of the Dixie Chicken Bar, Chancery lane, were broken into and £l2 stolen. The St. Bernadette School, Hei Het road, was burgled and £1 16s stolen.
Property valued at £6 was stolen from Packer and Jones, Ltd., Churchill street.
The wool scouring premises of Defosses and Duvivier, 23 Heathcote street, were broken into and £6 stolen. Last week, the firm had three bales of crutchings stolen from the premises-
The sum of 15s was stolen from the Housing division when the Government Buildings, Worcester street, were broken into.
