Cave-Sitting

Sir,—Sitting for 130 days in a cave must require enormous patience and determination. What a pity that feats of endurance such as sitting in caves, rock’n’ rolling, or sitting on top of a pole, etc., for days on end cannot be channelled into something more worth while or fruitful. There is a great need for people of this calibre in the world today. How much more satisfying if Mr Lafferty could have sat in a coalmine and sent up a couple of tons of coal during his sojourn beneath the earth. It seems to me that a good honest day’s honest work would be a feat of endurance for some.— Yours, etc., R. WEBSTER. August 9, 1966.
