ROLLON SHIPS

“Port Will Be Ready” By the time the drive-on drive-off vessels entered the trans-Tasman service in mid--1968 he was sure that there would be sufficient cargo passing through Lyttelton for Australian ports to warrant extension of the service to the South Island, said Mr L. G. Amos, the chairman, to the Lyttelton Harbour Board yesterday.

He was commenting on an announcement of the Union Steam Ship Company, Ltd., that it intended to Introduce a drive-on drive-off service between Auckland, Wellington, Sydney and Melbourne. “The commercial and other interests can rest assured that in the event of a decision being made to use the port of Lyttelton the necessary facilities will be available,” Mr Amos said.
