POLLUTION LEVEL

Warnings On ! Port ; I The latest sampling tended ] to show that Governors Bay, i Charteris Bay and Diamond i Harbour were relatively free from pollution, and that the heaviest pollution was in the inner harbour, said Mr J. B. Snoad, the chief health inspector of the Health Department, in a report to the Lyttelton Harbour Board yesterday. There were varying degrees of pollution at Rapaki, Corsair Bay and Purau. Mr Snoad recommended the board to erect warning notices against swimming or fishing er gathering shellfish in the inner harbour, and said he would be writing to the Lyttelton Borough Council and the Mount Herbert County Council recomendlng warning notices at Rapaki, Corsair Bay and Purau Bay. The engineer-in-chief (Mr J. A. Cashin) said reports on pollution showed that it was necessary to safeguard bathing beaches and shell-fishing.
