Fine N.Z. Table Tennis Victory

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright)

MELBOURNE.

New Zealand, down 1-2, fought back magnificently to beat Victoria, 3-2, in an international table tennis match in Melbourne.

B. Foster was New Zealand’s most successful player, defeating both Victorians, L. Pascoe, the current Australian champion, and G. Stirling. When the Victorian pair took the doubles in straight sets it looked like a certain

victory for the state, but Foster defeated Stirling in four sets.

Then, in a great struggle, A. Tomlinson gave New Zealand victory with a straight sets win over Pascoe. Results:—

Tomlinson lost to Stirling, 21-12, 19-21, 17-21, 14-21; Foster beat Pascoe, 24-22. 21-18, 15-21. 21-16; Tomlinson and Forster lost to Stirling and Pascoe, 18-21, 16-21, 12-21; Foster beat Stirling, 21-23, 22-20, 21-13, 21-19; Tomlinson beat Pascoe, 22-20. 21-16, 21-15.
