Two Badly Hurt

Two men were seriously injured and a car was wrecked when it struck a tree after running off the Main West road near the Rolleston road intersection at Aylesbury early on Saturday evening. John Watts, of Halkett, suffered a broken neck, arm and leg injuries and shock. Mervyn George Watson, also of Halkett, suffered a compound fracture of a leg and shock.

They were taken by St. John ambulance to the Christchurch Hospital and admitted to the recovery ward. Mr Watts’s condition was reported last evening as fair and Mr Watson’s as fairly comfortable. k The car failed to take a bend, leapt a 3ft water race, crashed through a bank and a fence and then hit a pine tree.
