Glovemakers’ Pay Rise

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 31. A wage increase of Ils 6d a week for journeywomen glovemakers is included in a new award for Wellington, Canterbury, Otago and Southland glove workers issued by the Court of Arbitration. The minimum rate for journeywomen is £lO 12s Od weekly. Female workers starting at the trade when over 21 years of age shall be paid a minimum of £8 12s Od. First class glove-cutters receive a rise of £1 0s fid to a minimum of £l6 15s Od weekly. Second class glovecutters have a rise of 14s 4d to £l4 weekly. Minimum wages of females apprentices increase 6s to 9s for a new minimum of £5 7s Od weekly rising to £9 4s Od. ■ The new award applies from June 22 and is in force until December 7, 1967.
