First Win In 12 Years
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. After 12 years of unsuccessful attempts, Wellington regained the Campbell Rosebowl with a narrow 2-1 win over Auckland in a tension-filled inter-provin-cial soccer match at the Basin Reserve on Saturday. Auckland, far stronger than Wellington on paper, dominated long phases of the game, but whereas Wellington eagerly and forcefully took advantage of its chances, Auckland squandered their’s. After a poor start, Wellington settled down to play bright football and although it was defending desperately for long stretches it fully deserved to win.
