Lake Still Steaming
(N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, July 27. Crater lake on Mount Ruapehu is still steaming and surging, a spokesman for a Scientific and Industrial Research Department team at the Chateau said today. The team climbed to the lake this morning and reported surging and splashing water between 20ft and 30ft into the air. Dark patches in the snow indicated that many overnight splashes had gone much higher. There was no evidence of unusual noises or vibrations from the crater.
