The Canterbury Progress League last night expressed satisfaction at the intention of the Union Steam Ship Company to start a roll-on, roll-off service between Australia and New Zealand. Earlier this year the league had begun agitating for a better shipping service across the Tasman to handle passengers and cargo. The league was told that an Italian line had started a monthly service from Auckland to Sydney. It decided to press the new Union company service to include Lyttelton as a port of call at some future date. The company announced yesterday that Auckland and Wellington would be the New Zealand terminals.
