Rugby Programmes
Sir, —As a regular patron of Lancaster Park I am somewhat mystified by the fluctuating cost of the Rugby programme. For club and representative fixtures it costs one shilling a copy. For internation matches, when thousands more are printed, the unit cost Increases to 2s a copy. Does the Rugby Union still believe in the old axiom, never give a sucker an even break?—Yours, etc., ONE OF ’EM.
July 13, 1966. [The secretary of the Canterbury Rugby Football Union (Mr G. K. Young) replies:— “The programmes printed for International matches are more sophisticated editions containing a greater number of pages, with special photographs of notabilities in the Rugby World. A special cover is produced in colour and the pages are of quality paper. All this involves much additional expense, and allied to this are increased distribution costs. The programme price is the same as is charged in other centres for international matches and your correspondent may rest assured that, considering all the factors Involved, the price charged is fair and reasonable.”]
S. Vietnam.—When Brigadier C. L. Pleasants, a retired Army officer, addressed the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association on his recent visit to South Vietnam, he was reported in “The Press” on Tuesday as saying that there were two million Buddhists in South Vietnam in a population of 44 million. Brigadier Pleasants said yesterday that he had stated the population of South Vietnam was 14 million. The error is regretted.
