One of New Zealand's best known Seamen’s Union officials, Mr Bichard Ryan, aged 66, of Wellington, will retire this week after serving as national vice-president and Wellington secretary since 1936. He first went to sea as a 14-year-old. He will leave in the Northern Star next month to visit England,
