Slur On Family Name

A Paris court has ordered a change in a film title, “The Dreadful Crimes of the Marquis of Sade,” after his discendants protested that it was a slur on the family name. The court action was taken by the present head of the eighteenth century writer’s family, Count Xavier de Sade, a rich land-owner in the Aisne Department of France. The film, which features Peter Cushing and Patrick Wymark, was originally called “The Skull,” but opened at six Paris cinemas under the “Sade” title.
