From Film To Stage
The Greek actress Melina Mercouri will recreate her film role of a prostitute In a stage version of “Never on Sunday” on Broadway. Miss Mercouri won the best actress award at the Cannes film festival in 1960 for the role.
The stage musical will be staged by Jules Dassin, who directed the film and appeared in it opposite Miss Mercouri. The story of “Never on Sunday” concerns an American intellectual visiting Piraeus, the . port of Athens. He meets a beautiful prostitute who resists his efforts to save her.
