PALMERSTON NORTH. Saturnian and Foxoman gave a fine display of schooling at Awapuni yesterday. The two are rival candidates for the Manawatu Hunt Cup on Saturday. Neither has contested a steeplechase, and Foxoman has yet to make his debut in a jumping race. Foxoman has been well schooled in the hunting field, and Saturnian has taken well to the bigger fences. Another to improve was Tyrol, which schooled over three of the steeplechase fences Impressively in preparation for the Parkin Memorial Steeplechase at Levin today. Saturnian and Foxoman jumped five of the steeplechase fences and ran stride for stride. It was a brilliant display, and In a weak Hunt Cup field this week they could easily dispute the finish. Foxoman looks improved by his race at Trentham last Saturday.
Tyrol jumped the three permanent steeplechase fences competently and should be one of the hardest to beat in the opening event at Levin. Gay One gave a safe display over four hurdles, and York Abbey and Extender jumped four in good style. York Abbey could have, a good chance in the hack hurdles on Saturday. Laramie completed pace work
yesterday. He was still a trifle tender afterwards, but his trainer, H. J. Waller, hopes to start him at Levin today.
