YEAR OF PROGRESS

Bellringers 9 Society The ringing of one full peal, the first ever rung on the heavy bells of the cathedral, had helped to make the last year one of the most progressive in the history of the Christchurch Cathedral Society of BeMringers. Four quarter-peals were also rung. At the annual meeting held recently, members of the society felt that there was a need for a “light eight,” but to make it possible three additional light bells were required. No finance for the new bells was available, but the society hoped for donations from well-wishers. Mr R. H. Idle was elected a life member of the society in appreciation of his outstanding service as master. New members elected were Dr. P. J. Perry (formerly of England), Mr C. Henshali, elected probationary member, and Miss C. Masefield (Australia) who was elected honorary overseas member. Officers elected were:—Patron, the bishop-elect (Dean Pyatt); president, the Dean of Christchurch: master, Mr R. H. Idle: deputy-master, Mr N. F. Reeve; secretary-treasurer. Mr G. N. Sloan; auditor, Mr E. A. McPherson; custodian, Mr J. N. Dunn; committee, Miss L. Stevens, and Messrs J- N. Dunn, J. H. G. Gardner, R. Hainsworth, and A. SummerelL
