CAPTAIN NO. 4
Murphy Is Named There usually is something delightfully improbable about British Rugby and the naming of the Irish flanker, N. A. A. Murphy, as captain today only underlines this. The touring captain, M. J. Campbell - Lamberton, withdrew from the side yesterday because of an injured ankle and was replaced by W. D. Thomas. When Campbell-Lamberton was not chosen for the match against Wellington, A. E. I. Pask, the man most critics thought should have been captain of the Lions, was appointed. The Lions lost, 6-20, but there was still a feeling that Pask might be the best man to strike some fire from the team. Now Pask has been overlooked and the captaincy given to Murphy. Why it is hard to understand. Now all of the Home Unions have had their captains on this tour: CampbellLamberton (Scotland), M. P. Weston (England), Pask (Wales) and Murphy (Ireland).
