HEALTH STAMPS
Sport Theme To Be Used Sport will replace birds as the theme for future issues of New Zealand health stamps. Since 1959 birds have been the theme of health stamps, replaced only in 1963 by a portrait of Prince Andrew. The bird theme will end this year after depicting 14 native New Zealand birds. The Postmaster-General (Mr Scott) said that the new sport theme would allow the Post Office to mark many important sporting events. At the same time it could publicise the health aspect of sport among children.
Only the sports in which children participate will be depicted. Next year, Rugby will be depicted to mark the seventy-fifth anniversary of the New Zealand Rugby Union.
Leading New Zealand stamp artists will be asked to prepare designs associating children with sport to be featured each year.
