Began Birthday In Lake

(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) CONISTON (Lancashire), June 26. Miss Brenda Sherratt began her 18th birthday today in the waters of Coniston Lake where she became the first person to swim the 11mile length of the lake nonstop. She completed the distance in 11 hours 35 minutes after swimming throughout the night. Miss Sherratt is training to swim the 24-mile length of Loch Ness in July. * She said afterwards: "It took me quite a long while to get used to swimming in darkness.” During the swim she drank about a dozen cups of coffee and some chicken soup and ate half a chicken at the half-way mark while she stood in shallow water.
