TRANSPORT INSTITUTE
Christchurch Group Formed A group of the Institute of Transport was established in Christchurch at a recent meeting of corporate membersand students. Mr J. F. Fardell, general manager of the Christchurch Transport Board, presided at the meeting, which was well attended. Also present was the chairman of the institute’s New Zealand division (Mr H. M. Denton, of Auckland) and several members of the Wellington section. Mr Denton outlined work being done to advance the standing of the transport industry in New Zealand. The immediate past chairman of tire New Zealand division (Mr A. T. Gandell, of Wellington) spoke about the educational programme for students and assistance available to help young men qualify for membership. The institute was incorporated in Britain in 1920 and was granted a Royal Charter in 1926. There are 50 divisions and sections throughout the world. The New Zealand division was formed in 1959 and total membership is now several hundred.
