SUBURBAN TRUST
Support For Private Bill The New Zealand Licensing Trusts’ Association strongly supports the private member’s bill now before Parliament asking for a suburban trust for Birkenhead on Auckland’s north shore, said the president of the association (Mr D. A McDonald, of Tapanui). Mr McDonald said that his association’s executive had unanimously resolved to urge the Government to pass the bill and give effect to the wish of the people of Birkenhead, as expressed by an overwhelming vote of . residents. It appeared that the Government intended to reduce Birkenhead to the status of a local trust, whereas it was a special area which carried restoration and was therefore entitled to become a suburban trust. With this status it would be entitled to ail the licences granted in its area instead of one licence only. It would then enjoy much better terms when raising finance, said Mr McDonald.
