ATTITUDE TO CANCER
Society Seeks Co-operation
It was fortunate that many people in Canterbury and Westland were learning more about cancer, and passing the word that the society’s programmes were not frightening, said Mrs T. WoolmoreGoodwin, field officer of the Canterbury-Westland division of the Cancer Society. “Cancer societies all over the world look to the co-oper-ation of the public in all sensible efforts to prevent, detect and treat cancer,” she said.
“Fear of cancer is understandable, a legacy from the past when it was an unmentionable subject. Irrational fear of anything can be selfdestructive, so let us look on the hopeful side. Cancer is certainly not always fatal. Many thousands of people, including myself, have been cured, and more are being treated successfully every day.” The chairman of the society is Mr L. A. Bennett. The division’s office is at 311 Manchester street.
