More Bananas From Ecuador
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 17. A further consignment of bananas from Ecuador had been ordered to compensate for small shipments from the Pacific Islands this year, the chairman of Fruit Distributors, Ltd., Mr H. Turner, said today. The shipment of 115,000 cartons from Ecuador was due on May 30. Two-thirds of this would be unloaded in Auckland for the North Island and the balance at Lyttelton for the South Island.
Mr Turner said only onethird of the normal quantity of bananas had been available from Fiji, Samoa and Tonga this year because of hurricane damage to plantations.
