POISON DANGER
Export Ban On Hares (N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, May 8. The export of bares from Southland has been banned because of possible 1080 contamination. Mr P. Kilgowth, manager of a Mossburn meat export factory, has received notice from the Government of the ban. Mr Kilgowth was told that because of widespread 1080 poison of rabbits veterinary certificates for the export of hares caught after April 30 would be refused. Future policy on the export of hares would be decided at the end of this season, said the letter from the Department of Agriculture. The factory has been exporting 40 tons of hares a year to France and Germany for the last four years. Another factory in Canterbury was exporting hares, said Mr Kilgowth. “The most alarming thing about this is that it has been said in the past that there is no danger to the public from 1080 poisoning,” said Mr Kilgowth.
