CATCHES MISSED

W. Indians Falter (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) WORCESTER. The West Indies missed opportunities yesterday as the county champion, Worcestershire, scored 206 for seven on the second day of their three-day match. The pace attack presented few. problems early on, with W. W. Hall having little more than a musele-loosener. But there was a spell during the afternoon when the spinner, R. Brackner, looked like getting on top. As the Worcestershire batsmen pressed for runs Brackner took quick wickets and Worcestershire’s score slumped from 150 for two to 165 for six. But heavy rain checked the break-through and after a long hold-up Worcestershire resumed to boost its total with an unfinished eighth-wic-ket stand of 28. The spinners were assisted by some brilliant ‘ wicketkeeping by J. Hendricks, who has had three stumpings in the innings. Australian and Pakistani test cricketers, R. M. Cowper and Saeed Ahmed, batted brilliantly for the M.C.C. against Surrey at Lord’s. Cowper and Saeed added 81 in 75 minutes before Cowper was caught for 53.

Ahmed went on to a dashing 100 not out. Lincolnshire made a great bid at Southampton to become the first minor counties side to beat a championship team in the Gillette Cup, but chasing Hampshire’s 226 for nine, it was all out for 195.
