Shamrock All Out For Victory

The transfer of the Canterbury centre-for-ward, J. Logue, from Shamrock to Christchurch City, caused considerable heart-burning at last Tuesday’s meeting of the Canterbury Football As-

sociation. And it will be an interesting side issue when Shamrock and City, with Logue in his new colours, meet in the main game at English Park this afternoon. There is no ill-feeling between Logue and his former

club, but Shamrock is determined to test City, the Hurley Shield leader, to the full, and is quietly confident that those who have written off its chances will be made to eat their words.

Shamrock, third in the table, two points behind City, has nothing to lose and everything to gain, and will go into the game with the knowledge that even an underdog must have its day. ! But discounting Shamrock causing the biggest upset of the season so far, City must be a firm favourite to take another two points and retain

its 100 per cent record in the ■competition. Even without Logue to lead its attack, City would have been extremely difficult to beat. And Logue will release G. Evans to take up his commanding position at centrehalf, which will give City greater strength and mobility in mid-field.

None of the other games has quite so much to offer, either in clash of personalities or tactics, although High School Old Boys will have to be in more convincing form to beat Rangers in the early game at English Park and re-

tain their second place in the competition table.

It would cause a surprise only slightly less confusing than Shamrock beating City if either Western or Technical lost their matches against Waterside and ShirieyNomads, respectively. The second division leadership will remain unchanged, for Burnham has defaulted to the unbeaten New Brighton. Instead, Brighton’s players will be at McFarlane Park watching the play of Technical. which Brighton meets in the Chatham Cup next Saturday.
