HASTINGS GALLOP
Royal Chase Does Well “The Press” Special Service HASTINGS. Royal Chase, Sorcery and Damar were among the most impressive of the horses engaged at Trentham which worked at Hastings yesterday. The trestles were well outside the true distance on the course proper and the going was easy. The trainer, M. J. Burridge, said Popoff would not start in the Capital Steeplechase on Saturday, but' would be reserved for the steeplechase on Wednesday. Popoff is very well and he galloped boldly today. Golden Rebel (F. Grantham), a hack which could win a race during the Trentham meeting, and Pursuit (R. Grantham), a good prospect for Otaki and Foxton, took Imin 32sec for seven furlongs, the last three furlongs in 41sec. Golden Rebel will appreciate heavy ground. Sincere (C. Hercock) and Damar (B. Cullen) took Imin 20sec for six furlongs, the last three in 42 2-ssec. Damar worked most impressively and obviously appreciated the softer ground. Royal Chase (Connolly), which is expected to prove hard to beat in the Wadestown Handicap, covered five furlongs with the two-year-old, Sorcery, (R. B. Marsh). They took Imin 5 2-ssec, the last three in 40 l-ssec.
Sorcery, a smart youngster, could measure up to top standard at Trentham if the ground is easy.
